FAST FACTS: Trogir

After a month and a half, we're back and ready for a trip down memory lane. Last blog, we visited Hvar. Today, we're going to Trogir, so grab your passport, and get ready for a great day!

1. Trogir has around 11,000 residents. That's about for hundred and seventy thousand less than the population of South Carolina.

2. Trogir was founded by the Greeks.

3. The name Trogir means "goat mountain." I thought it was a bit absurd at first, but I later learned they bred goats during early civilization. I was disappointed that I did not see any goats there.

4. Trogir is 500 kilometers wide and 200 kilometers long. That translates to nearly 311 miles wide and 124 miles long. I'm not taking that walk, thank you!

5. Trogir is home to fifteen churches.

6. Kids start school at seven years old.

7. The city gates are closed at night for safety purposes.

8. People in Trogir use the ground floor of their house as storage. It must take a while to get groceries inside then.

9. Each church has a town square beside it. They previously used this square as a graveyard, but they aren't allowed to have bodies on the island due to hygiene reasons.

10. The ground floor of the courthouse held prisoners. Above the prison was the theater. I thought this was funny because the prisoners could more than likely hear the show going on above them.

11. Women were not allowed to enter the courthouse.

On that happy note, come back to reality for a little while. I hope you enjoyed my little tour. All of this knowledge has been retained thanks in part to the Notes app, so give a big round of applause for the most underrated app on the iPhone! Our next trip down memory lane will be in approximately one hour, and we will be traveling to Korcula!
